What is Bujinkan?
The schools of the Bujinkan were developed by the
legendary warriors of Feudal Japan. The traditions
continue to this day under the guidance of Masaaki Hatsumi.
The nine schools of the Bujinkan consist of Authentic Japanese Jujitsu
and Ninpo.
What is Ju-Jitsu?
Ju-Jitsu loosely translated means "science of softness" or "gentle art" and is applied to many
schools of unarmed and hand-to-hand
combat. The soft grappling style was
intended to help unarmed soldiers to fight
against armed enemies in any way possible, using the least
amount of force necessary. Ju-Jitsu was the primary unarmed combat method of the Samurai. Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, Aikido and Judo are both modern day descendents of Ju-Jitsu.
Ju-Jitsu emphasizes turning an attacker's own force against him or herself, putting them off balance. Ju-Jitsu also emphasizes certain grappling moves and strikes to vital areas. A Ju-Jitsu student is expected to learn how to gauge the force of an opponent's attack and use it against him, evade attacks and use leverage against an opponent.
What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. It is a derivative of early 20th century Kodokan Judo, which was itself then a recently developed system (founded in 1882), based on multiple schools of Japanese Jiujitsu.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant using joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat an opponent. BJJ can be trained for self defense or sport grappling.
